Commission Procedure

Parameters of the portrait are discussed and established such as style, size, setting and a sitting is scheduled.

In the first session, I will make photos and sketches to survey a range of poses. This will take place in your home, my studio, or other location according to the requirements of the portrait.

From this initial source material, I will prepare and present the proposed composition. A deposit of 50% is required at the first session.

Upon approval of the composition, a second session with photos and sketches may be required to finalize some details. By this use of photos, the inconvenience and expense of multiple, extended sittings for the subject is greatly reduced.

From this source material, I will complete the portrait in my studio.

Upon client approval of the completed painting, the balance is due and the portrait is delivered.

Your portrait will be painted with top quality oil colors on fine linen canvas and applied in a manner consistent with archival integrity. These techniques have a long history that insures your portrait will last for many generations.

The creation of a portrait painting is a collaborative effort between subject and artist. I endeavor to make it a rewarding experience for all with the unique result bringing years of pleasure to the owners, their family, friends and heirs.
